Wissenbach in the Local Community

The Wissenbach Group have chosen to support Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice in Coventry as our charity of the year for 2011.

Zoë’s Place offer palliative and respite care for babies and infants up to the age of five, with life limiting or terminal illnesses and special complex needs in a home from home environment. The hospice does not receive any Government or NHS funding and rely on the generosity of members of the public and local businesses to help raise the £750,000 it costs to run the facility each year. They don’t adhere to a set catchment area, and welcome children and their families from all over the country.

The Wissenbach Group will be raising funds in a variety of ways and the team will also be donating their time to volunteer at the hospice and at various fundraising events over the next 12 months.

Wissenbach in the Global Community

The Wissenbach Group has formed a partnership with The Fred Hollows Foundation, one of the world’s leading blindness prevention organisations.

The foundation seeks to eradicate blindness in developing countries and since its launch in 1992, has helped restore the sight of more than a million people worldwide.

The Wissenbach Group has funded the construction of a new eye clinic in the remote Rolpa region of Nepal. The Fred Hollows Foundation worked with the Tilganga Eye Centre based in Kathmandu, which runs rural community eye clinics throughout the country, to build the Rolpa Community Eye Centre.

Other previous projects funded by The Wissenbach group include the provision of 670 concrete cooking stoves for villagers across the Amhara region of Ethiopia.

The concrete stoves substantially reduce the amount of firewood and burning time required to cook, cutting smoke by up to 80%. This helps to prevent blindness, respiratory problems and reduce deforestation.
